6313173622 The first alternate power tube I tried a Russian 6AS7 (Big Russian). Not only that but further confirmation that I made the right choice is that there is a particular tube combination that really makes a difference for me. Reply March 16, 2013 Nick Tam It was mentioned before that there were two versions of the HD650, the drivers easily distinguishable with their colors and the fact that the latter HD650 is far easier to drive Reply March 16, 2013 dalethorn I read that somewhere a long time ago, but had forgotten, because the last 100 or so references Ive seen did not mention it, including this entire review and all of the comments. Id start with tube rolling first if you already have a crack. mmm& I was reading Tyll reviews, but it seems that what seems to be perfect for him (like the Momentum) have a lot of criticism in other sites. If I had one recommendation to Bottlehead, it would be to use the RCA tube as the standard stock tube. Here are a few sample pages from the manual And before you ask, oh yes, like a lot of Bottlehead kits there are circuit upgrades to feed your craving. I don't believe my wallet is going to appreciate this.
Much more improvement than the cap upgrade that I tried first. The things I write may be the absolute truth for me, but your mileage may vary. Were cost equal, I would pick the Valhalla. For the price, if you can solder, you cant beat the Crack. I cant stop playing every song in my library and I have thousands which I am listening and rediscovering. Anyone can build this kit! Read more: as much as I love great budget stuff, the best-sounding products are always a lot more expensive. Even 32 ohm Grado SR-60s work very well on the Crack, though Im not a fan of how they sound on good gear (the bumped-up mids and treble work great for wimpy SS-amps in iPhones and the like, but are overkill, IMO, on tubes). Thank you. I simply cant recommend the Bottlehead Crack highly enough, if youve got a yen to try a little soldering, this is the way to go. You might find this behind-the-scenes look interesting, though: Reply March 13, 2014 Dave Ulrich The Valhalla isnt amazing, as I say in the review.
